Fjord Rowboat at El Mocambo - February 23, 2007
So I was invited to the Fjord Rowboat CD release party for their album Saved the Compliments for Morning (hmm… I wonder what that means) and a pre-released CD for me to review for the site. Look out for the review in the beginning of April. (Sorry guys, I’m a bit of an organizational freak and it’s the earliest time-slot I could give you!)
I totally took them up on it, received two tickets so I brought my friend along to drive since I stink at paralell parking, especially around the ElMo. Good thing too, since my driver was frustrated beyond belief as we drove around the area 4 times, spanning a good 20 minutes before we found a spot to park.
They were slated to start at around midnight, but I think it wasn’t until about 1am when they finally went on. In a way I’m used to it since musicians are rare to start on time. Sadly I was also REALLY tired from the day, as was my “date”, and I would say about halfway through the set we were both too tired to stick out til the end. (Sorry again guys!)
The music was louder than I’m used to to (I forgot my earplugs) and there were way more video cameras than I could have ever envisioned to be at the place. I also don’t deal with crowds overly well, and it felt a bit crowded for me, but great for the band since there were so many supporters there out to see them.
It was great hearing them live though. I’ve been listening to their album in my car and just while on the computer and getting a good feel of what they’re like. And it’s always, ALWAYS, better to see a band live if you’re familiar with the music, and the songs beforehand. Makes things more enjoyable.
So of what I saw of Fjord Rowboat, I liked it. It was fun, and I’d love to do it again some time.
